Right now we’re in uncharted waters. Everything is changing and it’s tough. 2020 has shown us that what we thought was solid ground can shift like sand at any moment.
CHANGE….
What 2020 is also showing is us that going forward there will be many changes, and they will be profound. Some work practices will change forever.
OPPORTUNITY…
But change also brings opportunity. You may have been thinking about a career change, or have always wanted to work from home, or maybe you’ve been let go and aren’t sure what to do next, now is your opportunity to get ahead of the curve and retrain.
EDUCATION…
Education is the gift that keeps on giving. It’s an investment in yourself that lasts a lifetime. Education future-proofs you against adversity by adding another skillset. What’s more, training is tax deductible*. Transcription is growing, all those virtual meetings are being transcribed. Also, transcription is one of the easiest small businesses to get going with very little outlay. You will need to register for an ABN here in Australia and check your state requirements in the US. All you need is a reasonable typing speed, a desktop or laptop that can run Word, ExpressScribe, or QuickTime Player, a good set of headphones and some foot pedals. That’s it. That’s all the tools you need to start your training.
You need to make sure that the course you pick really sets you up for success. At TranscribeRight, we have started even before the start with our free five lesson “primer” series. You will feel confident even before you start Lesson 1 of the Beginners course. By the end of the Advanced course, you will have experienced a huge variety of different accents, interview style audio, focus group and multi-voice audio and be confident that you can transcribe over 60 minutes of audio per day. You need this because if you can’t do at least this per day, you won’t be earning your full potential.
There are many courses out there, but you need to do your homework and make sure that it covers all the things you will need to run and grow your business. There’s a lot more to being self-employed than just knowing how to transcribe.
We also have an alumni club exclusive to students that gives direct access to myself and Sonya to answer any questions you may have. It’s one of the only courses to do this. We are literally with you every step of the way, and are looking at getting our students out there and active by joining us on a Fitbit group. Transcription is very sedentary and it’s vitally important to look after our bodies.
We are being given a once in a lifetime opportunity right now to set the future as we want it. To come out of the other side of this with new skills and a new career. What are you waiting for?
